Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council Names Corporate Social Responsibility and Supply Chain Leader Donna Westerman CEO
Washington, DC-The Board of Directors of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) is excited to name Donna L. Westerman as its new Chief Executive Officer. Westerman succeeds Acting CEO Sarah O’Brien, who continues in her role as SPLC’s Director of Programs.
Westerman brings to her role more than 25 years of experience as a leader in supply chain, corporate social responsibility and sustainable sourcing with Verisk-Maplecroft, Mars, Wrigley, Avon, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Her substantial industry experience includes developing responsible sourcing centers of excellence, creating global sustainable sourcing strategies, and developing programs that support corporate diversity and social responsibility. She has served on multiple nonprofit boards, including the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex), and Girl Stats.
Founded in 2013, the SPLC (sustainablepurchasing.org) convenes buyers, suppliers and public interest advocates to strengthen and standardize sustainable purchasing efforts and transform markets. The SPLC has built a powerful membership of more than 180 governmental, enterprise and advocacy organizations. The Board of Directors looks forward to partnering with Westerman to continue to expand and diversify the organization’s membership, while deepening the relevance and impact of its programs.
“Donna’s impressive track record in responsible sourcing, supplier diversity and supply chain initiatives, along with her deep understanding of what our members need to succeed, make her an ideal leader for the SPLC,” said Jason Pearson, Chair of the SPLC Board of Directors. “She brings her leadership talents to the SPLC at a pivotal and exciting time in our history, when sustainable purchasing and responsible supply chains are increasingly understood as integral to achieving global sustainability goals.”
Leading a team of dedicated employees, Donna will hone and articulate the SPLC’s mission and vision, build on operational successes to date, and develop short- and long-term strategic plans.
“I am truly excited by the opportunity to lead this critically important organization in its next stage of growth,” said Westerman. “As the SPLC convenes growing numbers of sustainable procurement leaders, expands our coaching and support programs, and continues developing sophisticated tools and guidance to drive and reward progress, we are contributing to a future where commerce actively supports positive social, economic and environmental progress.”
