Founders Circle

The Founders Circle was designed to help the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council raise start-up capital, focus expertise, and build credibility.  Operating by invitation only, it acted as a leadership recognition and participation opportunity for stakeholders in institutional procurement who contribute to the founding of the Council. The Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council was conceived, developed, and continues to remain known as a collaborative effort across multiple aligning organizations.  Wherever possible, we will promote credible guidance developed by other initiatives, rather than independently developing guidance of our own.  Some of the organizations that SPLC is currently and/or has historically collaborated with include:

Acquisiti & Sostenibilità is a not-for-profit Italian organization established with the aim to create economic, social and environmental value by inspiring, informing, networking, supporting and serving the private and public companies of any sector in their Procurement, Supply Chain and Business Sustainability initiatives and practices.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a nonprofit membership organization supported by a diverse constituency of private and public sector organizations dedicated to enhancing both the global competitiveness of U.S. business and the U.S. quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems, and safeguarding their integrity.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) is a member-driven organization with a mission to empower higher education to lead the sustainability transformation.  AASHE’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance, including their sustainable purchasing activities.  The Council conducted a pilot project with AASHE that applied the Green Products Roundtable Prioritization Framework to STARS’s procurement-related credits.

Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) is the trade association for business and institutional furniture manufacturers.  BIFMA sponsors the development of safety and performance standards, including LCAs and PCRs, ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard and the level® sustainability certification for furniture.  BIFMA was a member of the Council’s forerunner organization, the Green Products Roundtable.

BSR Center for Sustainable Procurement (BSR CSP) is a three-year initiative to help procurement professionals make informed purchasing decisions based on a core methodology devised from the best available sustainability data and information through research, collaboration and case studies.

ICLEI is a non-profit membership organization that has been working on sustainable procurement for 17 years – helping support public authorities in implementation, spreading awareness of the concept, developing new approaches, and encouraging policy developments at the national, European and international level.

The International Living Future Institute is an inspiring hub for visionary programs; its mission is to lead and support the transformation toward communities that are socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative.

Institute for Supply Management (ISM) is dedicated to enhancing the value and performance of procurement and supply chain management practitioners and their organizations worldwide. Founded in 1915, ISM exists to lead and serve the supply management profession and is a highly influential and respected association in the global marketplace.

ISEAL Alliance is the global membership association for sustainability standards and is the global leader in defining and communicating what good practice looks like for sustainability standards. ISEAL was a member of the Council’s forerunner organization, the Green Products Roundtable.

National Association of State Procurement Officers (NASPO) is a non-profit association dedicated to strengthening the procurement community through education, research, and communication. It is made up of the directors of the central purchasing offices in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the territories of the United States.  NASPO was a member of the Council’s forerunner organization, the Green Products Roundtable.

NGLCC – National LGBT Chamber of Commerce is a U.S. not-for-profit advocacy group that aims to expand the economic opportunities and advancement of the LGBT business community.  

Practice GreenHealth (PGH) is the United States’ leading health care community that empowers its members to increase their efficiencies and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through tools, best practices and knowledge.

The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) is a national non-profit membership-based organization that works with state and local government agencies to partner with manufacturers, retailers, environmental groups, federal agencies, and other key stakeholders to reduce the health and environmental impacts of products.

The Responsible Purchasing Network (RPN) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and practice responsible purchasing by identifying best practices, developing effective purchasing tools, educating the market, and using collective purchasing power to maximize environmental stewardship, protect human health, and support local and global sustainability.

The Sustainable Food Lab is a consortium of business, non profit and public organizations working together on market-based solutions to the key issues—including climate, soil, poverty, and water—that are necessary for a healthy and sustainable food system to feed a growing world.  The Sustainable Food Lab’s research projects identify best practices and key metrics for sustainability in the food system.

The National Procurement Institute supports the development of current and future leaders in the public procurement profession.   The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award® symbolizes organizational excellence in a variety of measured aspects including leadership in sustainable purchasing, as defined by SPLC’s Maturity Model.
